Located on the town square facing the courthouse, this is the only marker dedicated to “Gainesboro’s First Family.” Joseph and Elizabeth Dudney Eaton were the first marriage in the newly established county seat of Gainesboro (Gainesborough as it was spelled in the 1820’s). They had their first child, America Eaton, born October 16th, 1821.
