Congrats! You Discovered Elvis Brooks Parker
Dempsey Parker’s fourth son, Elvis Brooks Parker, enlisted in the 7th Tennessee Cavalry in October of 1861. After 90 days, he went home thinking his enlistment had expired. He then joined the Federal 5th Kentucky Cavalry in August of 1862. Confederate General John Hunt Morgan’s troops captured Elvis Parker near what is now Gallatin. He was court martialed and was found guilty of desertion. His father, Dempsey, was an ardent Unionist, wouldn’t denounce his devotion to the Union and a challenge occurred witch lead to his son’s death by shooting at Morgan’s camp at Mills Woods outside of Hartsville
