In 1799, led by John Goodpasture, the first Old Union log church was built on the site where this building stands today. The Church was so situated that it was somewhat central for Methodists, Baptists, and Presbyterians for miles around to worship. Later, a school was added and taught more than 60 students by 1801. This was here before Overton County was established.
