The old Amonette log cabin was built in 1831 and preexists Pickett County itself. The county was formed in 1879 from parts of Overton and Fentress Counties. The Amonette Family’s cabin and land was donated in 2004 with the intention of building the visitors center, refurbishing the family’s log home, and creating a working “pioneer style” village around the cabin.
