The characteristic landform of karst, most sinks known as “solution sinkholes” form as the limestone dissolves, creating a sunken area in the land surface. “Karst” refers to a geographic area with soluble rock, mainly limestone. Karst is characterized by sinkholes, caves and underground drainage systems or springs.
