This is the Ballad of Champ Ferguson. Born in Kentucky, the oldest of 10, moved to White County in the 1850s. He showed passionate loyalty to the South and Confederacy. He spewed his hatred for the Union. Some believed his reasons was for grudges against the Union for the torture of his wife and daughter and death of his son. While being convicted of 53 counts of murder, he admitted to over 100 Union deaths. He was the most notorious Confederate guerrillas of the Upper Cumberland.
